Dog Training: Chewing
Dog training for chewing is absolutely essential. After all, who wants their dog going around chewing up everything in sight? It can be extremely destructive, so here are a few tips on getting him to stop.
Getting Items Out of the Way
The first thing you can do for your dog training chewing is to get things out of the way that he might want to chew. Puppies will naturally grab things, so take shoes out of reach etc. to stop it as much as possible. Eventually you should be able to leave them round again, but this will certainly help to minimize the destruction while you’re still training!
Why Is He Chewing?
Next it’s important to try and get to the root cause of his chewing. The most common reason that puppies will chew is because they’re teething and they need to chew. In this case, you must offer him an alternative like a chew toy – this is a good distraction and lets them do what they need to do.
However, dogs can also chew for other reasons. They might be lonely and chew when your out or they could be bored. You need to make sure that you give your dog enough attention by playing with him often, taking him for walks and so on to stop him getting too bored.
As long as you dedicate time each day to dog training, chewing truly can be kept under control. If you’re really having trouble then I recommend a good training guide like the one I use (check it out by clicking here).
